Story
In April 1959, Chega de Saudade, often credited as the first bossa nova album, was released. After 65 years, we are proud to release our brand new reimagination of one of the classics from the album, Desafinado.
The project was conceived in June 2023, along with an arrangement aimed to be a cross between jazz lounge and bossa nova. Many prolific Taiwanese musicians were invited to the project, including drummer Wen Wei Chen (陳玟瑋) on percussions, Sheng Fei Lu (呂聖斐) on mixing and keyboards, and Refa Wang (王群婷) on upright bass. Special guest Mika from the rock band DIZLIKE was also invited on wind chimes. I was happy to have the opportunity to work with them.
But more importantly, I was thrilled to be able to invite my father, retired session pianist Barry C. T. Huang (黃忠道), as the keyboard soloist. This was my first ever project working with him.
The first demo was sent to the musicians in October 2023. Most of the recording sessions were done in January 2024. We had lots of fun at the beautiful Lights Up Studio, as the upcoming recording session video will show you.
